Job Description

Our Product Design team oversees the strategy, ideation, design, plan and execution of all digital products and features created for our members. We are seeking a Product Design Lead to join our team.
As a Product Design Lead, you will have the opportunity to play the role of “player-coach.” You will continue to flex your honed set of individual contributor skills, while also cultivating the people growth of a small team of direct reports. We are looking for someone who welcomes the opportunity to nurture quality craft in their people, as well as to demonstrate quality craft through design.

This position requires an innovative designer, a helpful mentor, a team player, and a skilled
communicator — all rolled into one. Hands-on design skills, a thorough understanding of web and mobile applications, and desire to lead are all essential for this role.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the design of high-quality products that provide measurable value to our clients and end
    users.
  • Work closely with product, engineering, research, and other functional areas to help shape the
    product strategy and vision.
  • Own and drive the entire design process from early ideation of design concepts to detailed
    deliverables and production assets.
  • Advise and help guide user research studies.
  • Help develop and evolve our design system, Atlas, to be used across platforms.
  • Evangelize user-centered thinking and the value of design across the organization.
  • Take ownership and quality check the deliverables of the design team to ensure the outputs meet
    the project requirements.
  • Look into ways to continuously improve the design process and daily team interactions to add to
    the overall quality output of every job delivered by the design team.
  • Coordinate design efforts across multiple workstreams.
  • Mentor, train and coach product designers to become high performers in the team.
  • Build strong relationships and help the team collaborate across the organization.
  • Contribute to other initiatives for the team.
  • Manage and coordinate schedules, task timelines and team resources.

Skills needed for success in this role:

  • 5+ years of product design experience with 1-2 years of experience managing people.
    You thrive in ambiguous environments and bring clarity to teams through mastery of the design
    process.
  • Ability to facilitate design workshops with diverse product and functional teams.
  • Desire to learn, grow and teach skills to further your abilities and the abilities of your team.
  • Confidence to think about high-level product vision, understand constraints, and contribute to a
    fantastic user experience.
  • Solid understanding of the design thinking process, as well as a passion and know-how for
    influencing design strategy.
  • Expert knowledge of Sketch and InVision or similar design and prototyping tools.
  • Have the ability to think big-picture about the high-level user flows, but be a perfectionist about
    the details of the UI.
  • Experience partnering with user researchers and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to independently seek out feedback and buy-in from the right people at the company in
    order to keep a project moving and get approvals.
  • A solid and up-to-date understanding of best practices, developments, and trends in web, iOS,
    and Android.
  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • A great attitude, collaborative spirit, and openness to giving and receiving feedback.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
